Girls Weekend but make it FASHION

Yvonne Orji

This past weekend, my friends and I gathered in Washington, D.C. for our weekend plans. While the country is in the midst of a political debate and competing campaigns are taking stage, our plans did not consist of entertaining our political tendencies. Rather, we attended an HBO event all thanks to my girl, Krys! Read more to learn about the details, because I’m spilling the tea!

February 28th meant one thing and one thing only: the commencement of weekend festivities with the BROSKIS! As I headed down to D.C., I was simultaneously overcome with excitement and exhaustiveness. Let me try to unpack this for you guys. While in transit, I decided to pass the time by taking a nap. One thing led to another, and I began to dream. In my dreams is where I foresaw the excitement I was experiencing while enjoying the weekend’s plans. And there you have it- now back to the important details.

Saturday morning, the girls and I decided to relax and lay in. We watched some shows, caught up on each other’s lives and careers and made sure to get some more sleep. It’s not my intention to turn this into a snooze-fest so let me fast forward to Saturday evening.

We started getting ready around 4PM. I already knew what I was wearing because I chose my attire prior to leaving NY. I find packing outfits as opposed to individual pieces of clothing can save you SO much time and energy when getting ready.

Outfit: I have this sick gold jacket that I paired with a white vegan fur vest and a winged shirt. Layering, especially during this time of the year, adds so much personality and chicness to your outfit. So first the shirt, then the vest and lastly, the gold jacket. Add in a nice suede skinny-leg pants and short brown boots to spice things up, and ladies and gents- you’ve got yourself an outfit! Now I’m ready for Yvonne!

Holy smokes- it was like an episode out of Sex and the City, where each woman was dressed to impress! Sem, Beth, Z, Krys, Edem and myself did NOT come to play, haha! Also, I clearly did not get the all-black memo but #wemove.

The Event: Hosted at the Howard Theatre in D.C., Yvonne Orji under the direction of HBO, conducted a live-taping for her documentary. A part of this documentary would be the comedy show we just so happened to attend. But us being there wasn’t extraordinary luck. Thanks to the lovely Krys for inviting us, we were able to attend the event VIP style! You see Krys works for HBO, creatively curating content for current shows and movies. She is amazing and goes above and beyond for her friends (as you can tell).

After the show had ended, we left the theater to get ready for the night’s activities. A famous person (me) once said, “If you’re going to go out, go ALL out! #energyyyy”

Next on our itinerary- Afro-Soca FETE aka party! Disclaimer- when you see the title of the party read Afro-Soca, you know it’s going to be extremely festive and upbeat. Always keep in mind the theme of the event you’re planning on attending. I chose to wear an off-the-shoulder bodysuit with high waisted suede pants (after all, it is still winter).

Now here’s wear things get tricky. If you’re going to a party of some sort, you don’t want to bring a ton of stuff with you (i.e., a coat). What I chose to do here, is put back on my gold jacket. I knew it would be light enough to carry, stylish to wear and yet comfortable enough to move around and jump up in!

What an absolutely splendid night it t’was! I had an insurmountable amount of fun ( I promise you, I am not being dramatic when I say that). I practically had a smile on my face the entire night.

Girls Weekend but make it FASHION was a success! What did you guys do over this past weekend? If you could plan the ideal friend’s weekend, what would it look like and where would you go? Spill the beans……..

Till next time…. Xoxo Sig
